An Ardem survivor with a backpack walking a deserted road in Minnowa

Ardem Wiki: The Complete Guide to Ardem

Ardem is an open-world zombie survival RPG from Techtive Games, set in Minnowa — 64 km² of handcrafted American Midwest wrecked by the RHAB-14 virus. This wiki tracks everything confirmed about the game, and every answer here is dated and sourced.

What is Ardem?

Ardem is an open-world zombie survival RPG developed and published by Techtive Games. It is set in Minnowa, a fictional 64 km² region of the American Midwest, several years after a bioweapon programme called Artificial Demography released the RHAB-14 virus and collapsed society in a matter of weeks. That programme is where the game gets its name: Techtive Games confirms ARDEM stands for Artificial Demography.

The survival loop is built around rebuilding rather than just staying alive. You scavenge abandoned houses, farms, industrial yards and military compounds; you craft tools and clothing from what you strip out of the world; and then you start putting things back together. Restoring electricity, repairing a derelict vehicle and constructing a defensible base are the three long-term goals that structure most of an Ardem playthrough, and Techtive Games states that the changes you make to the world are permanent.

The game is playable in both first and third person with a keybind to switch, though individual servers may restrict one of the two views.

Is Ardem out yet?

No. As of 20 August 2026, Ardem has not launched and cannot be purchased. The Steam store page lists Ardem as Coming Soon with an Early Access target of 2026, and Techtive Games has not narrowed that to a month or a day. There is no pre-order.

What does exist is a pair of scheduled free playtests, and those are the only legitimate ways to play Ardem right now:

How to play Ardem right now

Getting into an Ardem playtest takes one click. Open the Ardem Steam store page, find the playtest panel underneath the trailer, and press Request Access. That places you in the pool for the closed test on 31 August. For the public playtest on 15 October you do not need to be selected at all — Techtive Games describes it as open to everyone, with no waves, no waitlist and no invite needed.

There is no key, no demo and no Ardem download outside Steam. Because it has never been released, anything advertised as an Ardem APK, crack or free full download is fake. The full walkthrough is on how to join the Ardem playtest.

What platforms is Ardem on?

This is a PC game. Steam lists Windows and SteamOS + Linux as the supported platforms, and no other storefront has been announced. Console versions are not confirmed: in the official Steam FAQ, Techtive Games says the focus is PC first and that a console release depends on the success and size of the player base.

Ardem gameplay and core systems

Techtive Games has confirmed a substantial systems list, and most of it is already implemented ahead of Early Access. These are the pillars you will actually spend your hours on:

Character creation and customisation is a confirmed feature — Character Customization is an official Steam tag, and Techtive Games describes personalising your appearance, gear and playstyle. The game is Steam Workshop enabled with mod support being developed alongside CurseForge. New players should start with the beginner's guide.

The world of Minnowa

Minnowa is 64 km² — roughly 25 square miles, or an 8 km square — and it is fully handcrafted with no procedural generation. Techtive Games has placed hundreds of unique locations by hand: towns and villages, farmland, forest, lakes, industrial estates, abandoned malls, military compounds, bunkers and caves. A large main city is planned but is confirmed as not available during Early Access.

The world persists 24/7 and keeps evolving while you are logged out. See the Ardem map hub, or go straight to how big the Ardem map is and military bases and bunkers.

Multiplayer, servers and mods

The game supports solo, co-op and online servers of up to 64 players, with a stated long-term goal of 100+. Server owners choose their own ruleset, so Ardem is PvE, PvP, PvPvE and roleplay depending entirely on where you play. Private server hosting is supported through providers, and dedicated server files are promised after launch. Roaming NPCs are not currently planned, so the people you meet in Minnowa are other players.

Ardem system requirements

The minimum spec is an Intel i7-7700K or Ryzen 5 1600X, 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT, with 50 GB of storage, DirectX 12 and a permanent internet connection — required even in solo play. The recommended spec steps up to an i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 3070 or RX 6800 XT. Full breakdown on the Ardem system requirements page.

Is Ardem free, and what will it cost?

It is a paid game, not free-to-play, and no price has been announced. The only official statement is that the Early Access price will be lower than the full release price. However the 15 October 2026 public playtest is completely free, which makes it the one legitimate way to play Ardem without paying anything. See is Ardem free and Ardem price expectations.

How Ardem compares to DayZ, Project Zomboid and SCUM

Techtive Games names DayZ, Project Zomboid and SCUM as its inspirations, and describes Ardem as a 3D survival experience inspired by Project Zomboid but less tedious. Compared with DayZ, Ardem is a smaller but entirely handcrafted map with far deeper building and an electricity grid. Compared with Project Zomboid, Ardem trades isometric simulation depth for 3D presence and 64-player servers. Read Ardem vs DayZ and Ardem vs Project Zomboid.
